History of Fir Valley

Lake Country residents Ron Taylor and Jim Moody are once again presenting a lecture on Fir Valley, an early pioneer community just east of Winfield (7 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the George Elliott Secondary School Library) and a guided tour of Fir Valley. Consider  joining Ron and Jim for this evening’s presentation or the guided tour on Saturday, May 5th at 10 a.m. To join this hike one must register through the Parks, Recreation & Culture department of the District of Lake Country, online or by phoning 250-766-5650.

Ron Taylor is the author of the book Fir Valley: A History (available for sale at the Lake Country Museum) that examines the early settlement in the area and Jim Moody has written about gold mining in the area in the 1930s (see Gold Trails in Fir Valley on the Museum website).

  • Just curious how someone can find info on this hike unguided as I’m assuming since this was posted in 2012 that there is no longer ones planned!

    • Lake Country resident Ron Taylor used to guide this hike so I will send your contact information to Ron so he can respond to you directly regarding your question.

  • I am also interested in a possible tour of fir valley. I read the book a few years ago and have been curious ever since
